The School of Psychological Sciences was one of the five schools which make up the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences. The Victoria University of Manchester was the first university in Britain to appoint a full-time Professor of Psychology in 1919. In 2004, when the University of Manchester was formed, the school brought together the Human Communication and Deafness Group (HCD) in the Department of Psychology and the Division of Clinical Psychology. The school was divided into three divisions: Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Audiology & Deafness. T. H. Pear was Professor of Psychology from 1919 to 1951.
