Southern Illinois University-Carbondale

is well known for his black and white incised porcelain. He spent most of his career teaching at Southern Illinois University and has work on display in the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in New York, as well as other collections.

Richard Russo – taught in the English department when his first novel was published in 1986; wrote Nobody's Fool and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Empire Falls, both of which were adapted for the screen and starred Paul Newman
