As of the fall 2024 semester, Texas State University had a total enrollment of 40,678. Of the student body, 36,206 are undergraduate students with the remaining students being post-baccalaureate or graduate students. The university accepted 68% of freshmen applicants who applied to attend the fall 2023 semester. This includes the guaranteed acceptance of any Texas high school graduate with a grade point average that ranked them in the top 10% of their high school class. About 56% of undergraduate students earn their degree after six years. Hispanic students made up 30% of the student body in 2013, which increased to 32% in 2014, qualifying the university to be designated as a Hispanic-serving institution.
