also broke the attendance record for an inaugural season, averaging 35,521 per game. UTSA lead the WAC in attendance for the 2012 season. The Roadrunners now compete in The American Athletic Conference (AAC) after previously being a part of Conference USA. The UTSA administration was very supportive of the move along with AAC commissioner Mike Aresco stating, "We're really excited about UTSA coming into our conference. They bring so much, and this community brings so much, I said to myself, 'Why didn't we do it before?' We had 11 teams for a while, and we didn't expand, and you just can't get a better program coming in."
