Permanent University Fund (PUF), with over $32 billion in assets as of 2022. These funds are primarily used for infrastructure improvements and expansion, as well as the repayment of debts.
The university also has its own endowment worth $176.97 million as of 2025. Furthermore, UT Tyler is part of the University of Texas System, which has an endowment of $42.9 billion as of 2021, the most of any public university system in the world and second only to Harvard.

UT Tyler competes in the National Parliamentary Debate Association. The team has competed in the national finals several times.

UT Tyler competes in the Lone Star Conference of the NCAA's Division II. It completed its three-year transition from Division III in 2021. Both the men's and women's sports teams are referred to as the Patriots.
