The women's team also has a rich history. Wayland's first women's basketball game was in 1910–1911, the same year that Wayland opened for classes. Women played club sport basketball against high schools from the 1910–1911 season through the 1947–1948 season when the Wayland women's team played its first game against another college, beating Texas Tech.
