The Bates College Museum of Art offers programs such as the Green Horizons Program that showcase environmentalism in art, society, and culture.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) honored Bates as a member of the Green Power Leadership Club due to the fact that 96% of energy used on campus is from renewable resources. All newly developed buildings and facilities are built to LEED Silver and Gold standards. The college achieved complete carbon neutrality in 2019, as a result of campus-wide conservation efforts and specific initiatives in its implementation plan.
