Drew University is in Madison, New Jersey, a borough about 25 miles (40 km) west of New York City. Known as "the Rose City" because of its rose-cultivating industry in the 19th century, Madison is an affluent commuter town in Morris County. It is connected to the state's northern section and Midtown Manhattan by NJ Transit's Morris & Essex Lines. The university hosts the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, an independent professional theatre company.
