Per Eleanor Duckett’s journals and writing, recovered in the Smith special collections, Duckett was the "life-long partner: of fellow English professor, Mary Ellen Chase. Many students joke that this is why Chase and Duckett houses are conjoined, existing together, but separately, in one building complex.
