Since 1959, cadets have also had the option of "cross-commissioning," or requesting a commission in one of the other armed services, provided they meet that service's eligibility standards. Starting on the first day of a cadet's second class year, non-graduates after that point are expected to fulfill their obligations in enlisted service.
