=== Sea level rise and flooding ===
In recent decades, Academy grounds have experienced increased flooding. Flooding has occurred not only because of increasingly intense storms such as Hurricane Isabel ($100 million damage), but also because of high-tide flooding occurring atop a sea level that has risen about 1 foot (30 cm) over the past 100 years. The Academy's Sea Level Rise Advisory Council has created a climate change adaptation plan including seawall repair, door dams, doorway barriers, backflow preventers in storm drain systems, and elevated building entrances. A $37 million sea wall was completed in 2024 to adapt to flooding occurring 30 to 40 times a year. However, adaptation approaches such as sea walls and building up the height of roadways and athletic fields are predicted to last only a few decades.
