appointed Harvey G. Stenger, Jr. as the seventh president of Binghamton University, effective January 1, 2012. Stenger had been interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University at Buffalo since April 2011. In October 2024, Stenger announced plans to step down at the end of the academic year. In November 2025, Anne D'Alleva will succeed Stenger as Binghamton University's eighth president.

Binghamton is one of four university centers of the State University of New York (SUNY) system and is governed by its board of trustees.
