Of the La Verne graduates who took the California bar exam for the first time in July 2016, 31% passed, vs. a statewide average of 62%. In November 2019, the university's board of trustees voted to change from an ABA-accredited school to a California Bar-accredited school, a decision that was influenced in part by the ABA's introduction of tougher accreditation standards in May 2019 which shortened the timeframe schools had to ensure a 75-percent bar pass rate from five to two years.
