The area has a beach volleyball net, hammocks, and chairs with umbrellas and is a popular spot for relaxing on campus. Swimming in the lake is not allowed due to alligators and untested water quality.

There are 14 sets of residence halls on the USF Tampa campus, offering traditional, suite, and apartment-style housing. In total, these residential halls provide housing to more than 6,500 students. The university also offers specialized housing options such as family housing, female-only housing, graduate student housing, and 14 houses for fraternity and sorority members in the Greek Village. The first of these residence halls, Alpha Hall (later renamed to Kosove Apartments), funded by a "Dollars for Dorms" campaign, opened in 1961.
